Tribhuvan International Airport is an international airport in Nepal located at an approximate distance of 5 km from the main city center of Kathmandu. Before formally using it to be as an airport, it was being used as an airfield by the Military. However, its proper inauguration as an airport was carried out in 1955 by his highness King Mahendra of Nepal. The present name of it was given in 1955. The airport had limited capacity in the start but after several continual extensions, it has now enough capacity to handle a large number of passenger traffic.
Regular commercial activities were started here in 1972. For now, it is considered as a hub of international and domestic flights. Almost 30 international airlines operate from this airport. You would be amazed to know that Tribhuvan International Airport is the only International Airport in Nepal. But given the congestion of traveler, new international airports are under construction like Pokhara and Nijgadh.
The Tribhuvan International Airport is hardly at a distance of 1 Km from the Pashupatinath Temple. A major tourist spot Thamel is also nearby it. Local buses will carry you the main city from the Airport. In short, when you will land at this amazing historical airport, then do not forget to learn about its history and beautiful architecture.
