Lumbini has the regard of Buddhist sacred pilgrimage site. According to Buddhist traditions, this is the place where Queen Mahamayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama, who attained enlightenment later in his life and became the founder of Buddhism. Many old temples like the Mayadevi Temple are present at this place. Many new temples are under construction with the collaboration of Buddhist organizations nearby Lumbini.
An international research institute, monasteries, monuments and museums are also inside the holy site. A Holy pond where it is believed that Buddha's mother had taken bath before giving birth first birth gives spiritual satisfaction to the pilgrimages. This holy pond is revered and preserved by the deities.
UNESCO declared Lumbini a World Heritage Site in 1997. Places of visitor's interest in Lumbini are Maya Devi Temple, Mayanmar Golden Temple, Lumbini Crane Sanctuary and the World Peace Pagoda. Ruins of a sacred Budhi tree, Ashoka Pillar, Mayadevi temple and an old bathing pond are still preserved here for the pilgrimages.
Gautam Buddha airport can be used to reach Lumbini as the preparations are underway to make this domestic airport an international airport. A new luxury hotel is also being constructed near to this place to make the visits of tourists easier and remember-able. In short, Lumbini is an amazing place to visit as you would see a mix of cultural and religious traditions of Buddhists and Nepalese.
