Dhaulagiri Peak is located in Nepal and forms the part of Dhaulagiri mountain range has the title of 7th highest mountain in the world. It is above the Kali Gandaki valley which as per many observers is the deep and steepest gorge on planet earth. Name of it is taken from the Sanskrit language in which Dhaulagiri Peak stands for 'white beautiful mountain'.
Dhaulagiri Peak was ascended for the very first time in 1960, however, since that time it has been climbed over several times. Many attempts were made during 1950-1959 by the Swiss, Argentine, French and Austrian climbers. All the attempts were made from the northern side and could not succeed. Thus when it was tried to reach the top from the northeast by the Swiss-Austrian team, they surmounted it. In 1808, it was considered as the world's highest mountain. But later on after the discovery of K-2 and Mt. Everest, that perception got changed.
When you look from the plains of India towards the north in clear days, Dhaulagiri is clear even from northern Bihar. Dhaulagiri's steep rise from the lower terrain is unparalleled. Adventurers visit this mountain regularly. It gives a sense of accomplishment after surmounting this peak to the hikers. Both the genders have climbed over Dhaulagiri Peak. Complete hiking of the mountain might take 12-15 days.
