Kathmandu Valley is also known as Nepal Valley, present the true picture of the civilization of Indian subcontinent. At least 130 significant historical buildings including pilgrimage sites of Hindus and Buddhist are present in Kathmandu Valley. It is enough to say that about the historical importance of the valley that its 7 sites are in World Heritage sites list.
Adjoining areas around the Kathmandu Valley and the valley itself are collectively called Nepal Mandala. Bakhtapur was capital unless Kathmandu and Lalitpur were not developed. It is the most developed and largest metropolis in Nepal. Most of the headquarters of different organizations and government ministries are located in this valley. Tourists are attracted toward it due to rich architecture and cultural value. It features the highest number of Jatras. British used to call it Nepal Proper.
A severed earthquake in 2015 caused massive damage to many towns including Bhaktapur, Kiritpur and Lalitpur. Many geologists suggest that Kathmandu Valley was sometimes in the past a lake, however, god Manjushri cut a gorge at a valley called Kashpaal and drained away all the water to make this lake area a habitable land. Therefore, this valley presents the shape of a bowl. In the list of important places to see, one can visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Changu Naryan temple, Boudhnath stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Ranipokhari, Dakshinkali Temple and Patan Durbar square. Tibet Buddhist Masters including Rwa Lotsava, Dharma Swami, Marpa, and Milarepa traveled to Kathmandu valley. Funerary structure from the early 5th century presents the most beautiful example of stone architecture. Stone inscriptions in the valley are a source of Nepalese History.
