Machhapuchhre Peak is a mountain in the Himalayas. Climbers do not allow to surmount as to preserve its beauty and shape. Elevation of this peak is 6993 m. Starting from the ridge of Annapurna Himalayas, it makes the boundary of Annapurna sanctuary. Sanctuary remains an attractive tourist destination through out the year. Having just at a distance of 25 Km from the Pokhara, it is easily accessible. Owing to its southern position in the Himalayan range, Machhapuchhre Peak gives huge relief in a short horizontal distance. This property of Machhapuchhre makes it a beautiful peak despite the fact that it has low elevation relative to others lying in its vicinity. Its double summit resembles the tail of fish, so it is also called a Fishtail.
Machhapuchhre Peak has never been attempted successfully. The first try was made by the British team led by Jimmy Roberts but the team did not set foot on the mountain as they previously promised not to do so because many Nepalese consider it a sacred peak. Therefore, it is now closed for the climbers.
