Machapuchare or Fishtail Peak is in north-central Nepal. It offers limited access to climbers for the preservation of its beauty and shape. The total elevation of the peak is 6993 m and the parent range of the peak is Annapurna Himalaya, at about 25 Km in the north of Pokhara which is the major town of this region.
As the Fishtail Peak is in the south of the Annapurna range, it has immense vertical relief in short horizontal distance. The double summit of the peak makes it similar to the fishtail hence the name of its "fishtail". Sometimes, it is also called by its nickname Matterhorn in Nepal. This has never been hiked up to its summit. The only attempt by a British Team in 1957 was made, however, it could not ascent the summit as it promised not to set foot on the summit. Since those days, the Fishtail Peak is considered sacred and few climbers go to that side.
