Hiunchali, located in Annapurna region, discovered and named by the Jimmy Roberts. It is connected to the Annapurna south region and is considered as one of the three main hiking peaks in the Annapurna Sanctuary. Gurungs live in this region and regard these mountains as sacred places. Adjacent other two peaks in this area are Singu Chuli and Tharpu Chuli. After the successful summiting of this peak in 1971 by an American Corps Peace expedition, it has been ascended many times since then.
Despite the fact that treks in Annapurna Sanctuary are popular and considered easy, however, the trekking of this specific peak is most difficult and the beginners are advised not to climb this peak unless having experience of climbing some other easy peaks of Annapurna Sanctuary.
The route to Hiunchali peak is very simple. While moving towards Base Camp on southeast face route, you need to start from Hinko Cave and then make 2 other camps on the way as the continuous traveling might put you in danger zone because this area has seen rock falls and glacier melting many times in the past. It might take 15-20 days to summit Hiunchali peak, so enough preparation for the uphill task should be completed and ensured.
