The National Museum of Vietnamese History consists of two former museums, the National Museum of the Vietnamese revolution and the National Museum of Vietnamese History. This museum is of majestic size and has significant historical value. It houses around 200,000 materials and objects which have a direct relation to the history of Vietnam.
As you will see all these objects, a glimpse of history from past to present will waver in front of your eyes. Most of them belong to ancient stories and among all 18 are acknowledged as Vietnam’s national treasure. The display of the museum has covered 3700 m2. There are two main buildings of the museum. The first one is located at 1 Trang Tien Street, Hanoi. This has multiple things to display related to the history of Vietnam, from ancient times to the end of the Nguyen Dynasty in 1945.
You can visit the second hall located in 216 Tran Quang Khai Street. You might know all about the history of Vietnam which is displayed inside dating from mid- 19th century to till day. Building A of the National Museum of History was basically the Louis Finot Museum. Its construction was started in 1926 and the building was completed in 1932.
The building of the National Museum of Vietnamese History has maintained its distinguished place in the major landmarks of architectural designs. A fine display of eastern and western features can be seen. Originally, the museum was main representation of Eastern art which includes fine art collections, ethnological and archeological art. It was in 1958 when this important cultural place was overtaken by the Vietnamese government. It took almost half a year to change the look and then to transform the display which was previously a broad overview of Asian Arts. Everything was arranged to showcase the rich history of Vietnam’s cultural and social life and that how society transformed and revolutionized from prehistoric times to the present.
The National Museum of Vietnamese History was formally opened for the public at the end of 1958. The building located at 216 Tran Quang Khai Street was built in 1917 as a headquarter of the Indochina Department of Trade. After the liberation of North Vietnam, the revolutionary president decided to turn the building into the Museum of the Vietnamese revolution. It is decided that history of Vietnam from the mid 19th century to the present will be displayed. It was opened officially for the general public in 1959.
Exhibit in the museum includes Neolithic mortuaries and Hung era artifacts. A sculpture of Quan Am is also there, to be called goddess of mercy. Ornamented thrones of the 13 Nguyen dynasty are also installed and displayed quite beautifully. Some other things on display are pottery, stone implements, and ornaments. Frequent exhibitions are arranged by the administration to let the people know about the main aim behind setting the National Museum of Vietnamese History.
