Bat Trang village is famous for one of its unique specialty related to ceramic goods. Characteristics of the village matches with Hanoi Old Quarter. Even though the village is located in northern Vietnam, at a distance of 13 km from the Hanoi to the southeast, but still despite having of it just a village, it is one of the most famous tourist place in terms of foreign and domestic tourists. Potteries and other ceramics have history and the specialty of the Bat Trang Village is exported around the world throughout the year.
Some records show that the Bat Trang Village came into being between 14th and 15th century, but locals say that their village was formed much earlier than the historical archives show. Therefore, two stories are associated with the primitive village. Famous story among the locals and visitors is that under the reign of Ly Dynasty in 1100, many scholars went to China, and the moment when they returned, ceramic industry business was started. It was then taught to the people living around.
Locals are adept in modern and traditional technologies to make porcelain artworks. You won’t just purchase the pottery but would having the opportunity to see as how these are made. Closeness of Bat Trang Village to the famous Thang Long trading port makes it an important hub for the tourists as well as for business point of view. It is important to mention that along with daily items like pots, cups and plates, many other decoration material and worship items are also available in the village. If you have plan to prepare ceramic piece of your own choice then Pottery and Bat Trang Porcelain Market would suits you most. VND 10,000 are adequate to join pottery making workshop.
Reach to the Bat Trang Village is easy and you can come here by public transportation. Traveling by taxi could cost you more. Adjacent to the ceramic stores, there are some hotels also like rice cake, hotdog, potato and sugarcane juice. So the village offers a complete package for tourists, and it should be availed by all the lovers of handicrafts.
