Pumori is a mountain-peak on the Nepal-Tibet border in Mahalnagur section of Himalayas. It is just 8 km away from the world’s highest mountain peak. Pumori has literal meaning ‘the mountain daughter’ in Sherpa language. Peak was originally named by the George Mallory.

Many locals call Pumori as a daughter of Mt. Everest. This is a famous tourist peak and the simplest route is graded as class 3, even though many avalanches present a significant danger. Gerhard Lenser was the first hiker to summit this peak in 1962. Two Czechs surmounted this peak from the southern face in 1996. Kala Patthar is the outlier of Pumori.

Around 500 people summited Pumori by 2005, 42 people succumbed to the hiking mission due to avalanches. However, the popularity of peak has been increased in recent years due to better Everest base camp facilities. Furthermore, amazing scenery of Nepal, Tibet, and Everest has also added further value in the beauty of this place.

The climbing of peak takes almost 30 complete days starting from Kathmandu in Nepal. There are three total camps which serve as acclimatization point and the hiking trail from camp 1 to camp 2 is much harder due to steep exposed ridges. In short, the views from the top of this peak are incredibly beautiful and whosoever planning to go to Everest base camp should try surmounting this peak also.
