A Journey of a Lifetime: From the Dragon’s Heart to the Pearl of the Far East

There is a version of Vietnam that cannot be seen through the window of a bus or from the height of an airplane. It is a Vietnam that reveals itself only to those willing to slow down, feel the rhythmic pulse of the pedals, and breathe in the scent of sun-drenched salt and ripening rice. Our 15-Day Cycling Tour via Backroads from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City is more than just a trip; it is a profound odyssey of self-discovery, physical conquest, and deep cultural immersion.

The Call of the North and Central Heritage

Your adventure begins in the thousand-year-old capital of Hanoi, where the energy is infectious. But soon, the city noise fades into the background as we veer onto secret backroads. The first half of your journey is a tapestry of history. In Hue, you will pedal past the moss-covered walls of the Forbidden City, feeling the whispers of ancient emperors. The ride to Lang Co and the subsequent climb of the Hai Van Pass is the ultimate test of spirit. As you reach the summit, the clouds beneath you and the vast blue ocean ahead create a moment of pure, unadulterated triumph—a feeling of being truly alive.

The Soul of the Coast

As we move further south, the landscape transforms. From the sacred ruins of My Son, we navigate the quiet roads of Quang Ngai and Sa Huynh. Here, life moves to the beat of the tides. You will cycle past vast salt fields where locals work under the golden sun, their smiles as bright as the landscape. The route from Quy Nhon to Tuy Hoa and Nha Trang offers some of the most spectacular coastal views in Southeast Asia. You will feel the salty sea breeze on your skin and the invigorating freedom of the open road, with nothing but the horizon as your guide.

Through the Sun-Drenched South

The final leg of our Cycling Tours Hanoi to Saigon takes us through the unique terrains of Phan Rang and the iconic red sand dunes of Phan Thiet. The air grows warmer, and the scenery turns into a vibrant blend of dragon fruit orchards and bustling coastal ports. As we approach Vung Tau and finally make our way into Ho Chi Minh City, a profound sense of accomplishment will wash over you.

Why Choose This Backroads Adventure?

This tour is designed for those who seek the "Backroads" experience—avoiding the heavy traffic of Highway 1 to find the soul of the country. You will stay in charming local spots, eat authentic regional cuisine that hasn't been "tourist-ified," and witness the incredible transition of Vietnamese culture from North to South.

By the time you reach the bustling streets of Saigon, you won't just have traveled 1,200 kilometers; you will have woven yourself into the fabric of Vietnam. You will carry home the memory of the children waving from the roadside, the taste of a cold coconut after a long climb, and the inner strength you discovered on the winding paths of this beautiful land. Join us, and pedal your way to the heart of Vietnam.

Hue is one of the main centers of culture, religion, and education in Vietnam. The only historically significant city left standing in Vietnam is Hue. Many of Hue's attractions are found along the 11km-long Perfume River, well known by its romantic nickname, "Perfume." This unique artwork consists of more than a hundred architectural components that depict the lives of emperors and mandarins throughout Nguyen's rule. Traditional, modern, folk, and regal architectural aspects are all combined in Hue's architecture. On December 11th, 1993, UNESCO declared it to be a part of the world cultural heritage. The Imperial Citadel, which is surrounded by 10-meter-thick walls and a moat, is situated on the north side of the river and was constructed in the style of Peking's Forbidden City. A few kilometers up the river lies maybe Hue's most famous religious site. Wonders still exist inside the castle. The Nguyen emperors' home, a large walled compound on the north bank of the river, is one such site. The forbidden city inside the citadel was only accessible to concubines, emperors, and those close enough to them; anyone caught trespassing would be executed. We also ride to the tombs of the old monarchs. Nestled amongst the hills on the Perfume River's southern bank are the magnificent cemeteries of the Nguyen Kings. Among these are the four well-known tombs, the names and designs of which represent the beliefs, traits, and inclinations of the individual Emperor. These include the majestic Khai Dinh tomb, the lyrical Tu Duc tomb, the powerful Minh Mang tomb, and the majestic Gia Long tomb. For any architect interested in studying Vietnam's past architecture, Hue's ruins of an ancient fortress are too significant to ignore. We ride our bikes back to the hotel in the late afternoon and have the evening to ourselves until dinner. Dinner at a local eatery and lodging at a hotel for the night.
