Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau – The Gateway to Adventure

Route: Hanoi – Mai Chau – Hang Village (Pu Luong)

Cycling Distance: ~30 km

Road Condition: 15km smooth tarmac / 15km undulating dirt & gravel paths.

  • 08:00 AM: Depart from your hotel in Hanoi. We leave the city behind, driving Southwest toward the "Gateway to the Northwest."
  • 10:30 AM: Snack & Refreshment Stop at the top of Thung Khe Pass. Enjoy a local snack of grilled corn or "Com Lam" (bamboo sticky rice) while taking in the panoramic views of the white limestone cliffs and the valley below.
  • 12:00 PM: Arrive in Pom Coong Village (Mai Chau). Enjoy a traditional lunch in a White Thai stilt house, featuring fresh local herbs, grilled meats, and seasonal vegetables.
  • 01:30 PM: Gear up and start cycling! We begin with a gentle ride through the flat, emerald-green Mai Chau valley.
  • 03:00 PM: The terrain gets exciting. We leave the tarmac for undulating dirt paths that wind into the Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Expect some small hills that will get your blood pumping!
  • 05:00 PM: Arrive at Hang Village, home to the Thai ethnic minority.
  • Evening: Enjoy a home-cooked feast and perhaps a glass of "Ruou Can" (local wine) with your host family. Overnight in a traditional stilt house.

Day 2: Pu Luong – The Ultimate Challenge

Route: Hang Village – Hin Village

Cycling Distance: ~35-40 km

Road Condition: Tough mountain terrain; steep dirt climbs, rocky single tracks, and technical descents.

  • 08:00 AM: After a hearty breakfast, we begin the most challenging day of the tour.
  • 10:00 AM: Mid-morning Snack Break. After a significant climb through dense tropical forest, we stop to catch our breath and enjoy some fresh fruit and energy bars while looking over the cascading rice terraces.
  • 12:30 PM: Lunch Stop at a local house in a remote hamlet. This is "Off-the-beaten-path" at its best—no tourists, just authentic mountain life.
  • 02:00 PM: The afternoon offers a rewarding descent. We ride through a mix of village roads and narrow tracks toward Hin Village. The scenery here is dramatic, with jagged limestone peaks surrounding the valley.
  • 05:00 PM: Arrive in Hin Village. This village is nestled in a stunning location, offering the perfect backdrop for a post-ride photo.
  • Evening: Dinner and overnight in Hin Village. Feel the peace of the mountains as the sun sets.

Day 3: Pu Luong – Ma River – Mai Chau

Route: Hin Village – Canh Nang – Mai Chau

Cycling Distance: ~40 km

Road Condition: Flat valley paths, riverside tracks, and some paved roads.

  • 08:00 AM: Farewell to our hosts. We cycle toward the Ma River, passing through expansive maize fields and bamboo groves.
  • 10:00 AM: Photo & Snack Stop at the giant Water Wheels. Watch these ancient bamboo machines lift water from the river to irrigate the farms—a true masterpiece of local engineering.
  • 12:00 PM: Cross the bridge over the Ma River and arrive in Canh Nang Town for a local lunch at a town eatery.
  • 01:30 PM: You have the choice: continue cycling along the scenic banks of the Ma River or hop in the support bus for a relaxing drive back to Mai Chau.
  • 04:30 PM: Arrive back in Pom Coong Village.
  • Evening: A "Farewell Party" atmosphere with a traditional Thai dance performance (optional) and our final night in the stilt house.

Route: Mai Chau – Hanoi

  • 09:00 AM: Embark on a final morning of cycling. We explore deeper into the valley, visiting the more remote villages of Nhot and Na Phon. This is the perfect time to interact with the locals in the fields and soak in the pastoral beauty one last time.
  • 11:00 AM: Time for some souvenir shopping. Visit the local craft stalls to pick up unique hand-woven silk scarves or traditional Thai embroidery.
