Day 1: Hanoi to Ba Be: Into the Heart of Northern Vietnam’s Hidden Paradise

🚗 Distance: 230 km – Approx. 5 hours

At 8:00 AM, your guide and driver will greet you at your hotel in Hanoi. Leaving behind the city’s energy, your journey begins toward the tranquil north — a world of winding roads, green valleys, and timeless villages.

As you travel through the countryside of Thai Nguyen province, enjoy the ever-changing scenery: farmers tending their fields, water buffalo grazing lazily, and children waving from roadside hamlets. You’ll stop en route at a Tay ethnic community, where life moves slowly and smiles come easily. Take a walk through the stilt-house village, chat with locals, and learn about their traditional way of life that has remained unchanged for centuries.

Continue your scenic drive deeper into Ba Be National Park, a land where emerald mountains, rivers, and rice terraces intertwine. The air becomes fresher, the views wider, and you’ll soon feel the world slow down. Arrive at Pac Ngoi Village, beautifully situated by Ba Be Lake, and check in to your traditional Tay homestay — a charming wooden stilt house surrounded by lush nature.

After a short rest, embark on a cycling adventure through the quiet countryside, passing Tay villages and winding rivers. Pedal along shaded paths lined with bamboo and banana trees, as the sounds of nature fill the air. Ride about 5 km to reach Hua Ma Cave, one of Ba Be’s natural marvels, famous for its dramatic stalactites and stalagmites illuminated by soft golden light. Step inside this ancient cave and feel as if you’ve entered another world.

Cycle back to the village in the late afternoon. The valley glows in hues of amber and green as the sun sets over Ba Be Lake. Dinner is served family-style, featuring authentic northern dishes cooked by your hosts — simple, flavorful, and full of love.

Day 2: Ba Be Lake Discovery: Boat Cruise Through Waterfalls & Caves

Wake up early to the gentle song of birds echoing over the water. After breakfast, take a short walk from your homestay to the nearby pier, where your wooden boat awaits. Step aboard and glide onto Ba Be Lake, the “three-lake wonder” of Vietnam, where emerald water mirrors the surrounding limestone cliffs and ancient forests.

As the mist rises, you’ll cruise across the peaceful surface, heading toward the Fairy Pond — a hidden lagoon surrounded by lush jungle and local legends of love and longing. The air feels crisp and untouched, and every ripple on the lake seems to whisper calm.

Continue along the Nang River, where the landscape grows wilder and the forest thickens. Stop for a short walk through the riverside jungle trail, spotting butterflies, tropical plants, and perhaps a shy bird darting across your path.

Back on the boat, drift downstream to the dramatic Dau Dang Waterfall, where torrents of white water crash over giant boulders, filling the air with mist and the sound of nature’s power. It’s a perfect spot to pause, breathe, and feel the refreshing spray on your face.

Finally, your journey takes you upstream to Puong Cave, an enormous limestone tunnel carved by the Nang River itself. As your boat glides into the darkness, you’ll see thousands of stalactites hanging from the ceiling and colonies of bats swooping gracefully above — a mysterious and breathtaking finale to your Ba Be exploration.

Emerging from the cave, you’ll continue back to the pier where your driver awaits. Enjoy lunch (optional stop) before returning to Hanoi through rolling hills and quiet countryside. Arrive in the late afternoon, carrying with you the stillness and serenity of Ba Be — a place that feels untouched by time.
