Lake Turkana Safari Package

The Lake Turkana Safari Package takes you to the Lake Turkana - is one of the largest desert lakes in northern Kenya. It gives a sense of inland sea to the visitors. The body of water is stretched over 250 Kilometers which is even bigger than the whole Kenyan Coast. The lake is also called the Jade Sea due to the impeccable and pure quality of its water. Aquatic life in the lake is as good as is the lake itself.

The 1800 Km traveling on the Lake Turkana Safari would be done on a Land Rover or the Land Cruiser. We will take you up into the center of much visited Northern Frontier District. Pass via the Samburu Game Reserve and the Sweet Waters to reach the Lake. You will pass via the wildest roads of Africa, would see the most beautiful mountainous forests, covered from all sides by the hot dusty deserts. Finally, you will reach the shores of Jade Sea also called Lake Turkana.

Visited Places:

8 Days Lake Turkana Safari Package Itinerary: DAY 1 - Nairobi - Samburu - Leave Nairobi and then go towards the Samburu Game reserve.

- Carry the lunch along and enjoy it during a short break at the Nanyuki.

- Samburu is famous for its location and the variety of species that live here. Species live for many long periods without any drop of water. It includes giraffes, blue-shanked Somali ostrich, and the Grey Zebras. Moreover, one can see the giraffe gazelle and the beisa oryx.

- The meal will be served at the lodges or otherwise campsite.

DAY 2 of the Lake Turkana Safari - Samburu game reserve - Spend your day on a full game drive activity in the Park. Reserve is abundant in different species which include the Gravy Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, and the Somali Ostrich. Reserve is also known for 900 elephants nourishing for years. Some large predators like Cheetah, Lion, and Leopard are some other major attractions.

- Tribesmen living in Samburu might perform a traditional dance for you on special request.

DAY 3 - Samburu - Marsabit - Drive to Marsabit National Park at 07:30 AM in the morning.

- The journey is dusty and lengthy. Travel via Trans-African Highway which has on its sides green, cool and hilly oasis. You would suddenly forget the heat of desert lands. Local Samburu and the Rendille people in their bright outfits make the place interesting and attractive.

- Your night stay will be at the camp.

DAY 4 - Marsabit - Kalacha - Leave for an early breakfast to the scenic landscapes offering majestic views of the hills.

- Arrive at the camp in Kalacha, which is a small Gabbra settlement on the bank of Chalbi Desert. Both Cushite and Gabbra site are related to the Somali-Rendille people from the origin since 1000 AD. Ethiopian highlands are famous for this kind of civilization. Men love to wear shorts while the women have headcloth and scarf wrapped around their body. These people are actually pastoralists and live with their camels.

DAY 5 - Kalacha - Lake Turkana - Leave a little early and cross the Chalbi Desert to reach Lake Turkana which is listed amongst the biggest lakes that exist on this planet and is our main target of the Lake Turkana Safari Package. It stretches up to 288 Km till the Kenyan/Ethiopian border. Lake is enveloped by the desert and volcanic rocks.

- We will timely reach the Turkana Huts installed at a local beach village. Relax and be at comfort from the scorching sunlight. Sunlight is severe in this area due to desert climatic conditions.

DAY 6 - Lake Turkana - Today on the Lake Turkana Safari we would relax at the local lodges and swim in the lake.

- A boat ride can also be booked for a little enjoyment but it will incur an extra cost to you.

- Turkana is basically named after one of the local tribes living at its shores. Richard Leakey uncovered fossil fuel which is three million-years-old in this area called Homo Erectus. The site is also called the Cradle of Mankind. Lake is also remembered as the Jade Sea due to the color of its water. Algae is in abundance in the lake and it varies the color of the water from one shade to another. Lake houses the largest population of crocodiles. Depending upon the weather conditions, we can have a boat ride also.

DAY 7 - Lake Turkana - Maralal - Today’s first stopover would be the Horr Valley which is located b/w the Ol Doniye Mara and Mount Nyiro. Near Maralal is listed amongst the most beautiful places in all of Kenya. The Maralal is enclosed in a landscape of valley shaped. Samburu people have designated it as their official capital.

- A Samburu Market and game view sanctuary are just outside the town. Moreover, it is home to the Maralal International Camel Derby which happens once in a year b/w July and October. Riders from all over the world participate in the camel market.

DAY 8 - Maralal - Nairobi - Return to the Laikipia Plains & Nyahururu.

- Stop for a while at the Thomson falls which has its name due to Joseph Thomson who traveled to Lake Victoria from the Mombasa in the 1880s. Shaped by the water of Ewaso Narok River, Thomson falls into a 72 m rift.

- Drive back to Nairobi after the lunch break.

- End of the Lake Turkana Safari!
