Early Morning – Flight from Zanzibar

Your adventure begins before sunrise with a transfer from your hotel to Zanzibar Airport. After check-in, you board a scheduled flight to Mikumi National Park. The flight offers beautiful views of the Indian Ocean, coastal forests, villages, rivers, and the mountains of mainland Tanzania before landing near the park. Upon arrival, your professional safari guide welcomes you and provides a short briefing before you begin your game drive.

Morning Game Drive

The safari starts immediately after entering Mikumi National Park. As you drive through the open plains, your guide searches for the park's incredible wildlife. You may encounter elephants crossing the road, giraffes feeding on tall acacia trees, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas, elands, and many other animals. Lions are among the park's main attractions, and with some luck, you may find them resting under trees or watching nearby herds. Bird lovers will also enjoy seeing colorful kingfishers, hornbills, eagles, secretary birds, and many other species.

Lunch in the Park

Around midday, you stop for a delicious picnic or lodge lunch in a designated area within the park. While enjoying your meal, you can take in the peaceful surroundings and appreciate the beauty of the African wilderness.

Afternoon Game Drive

After lunch, continue exploring different parts of Mikumi National Park. Your guide follows wildlife movements to increase your chances of seeing even more animals. Depending on the season, you may visit hippo pools where hippos spend much of the day cooling off in the water while crocodiles rest along the riverbanks. Every safari is different, and each game drive offers new opportunities to witness nature at its finest.

Evening – Flight Back to Zanzibar

In the late afternoon, you leave the national park and head to the nearby airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Zanzibar. Upon arrival, our driver transfers you to your hotel, marking the end of an unforgettable one-day safari adventure.

Wildlife You May See

Mikumi National Park is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife. During your safari, you have excellent chances of seeing elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, wildebeests, impalas, elands, hartebeests, warthogs, hippos, crocodiles, monkeys, baboons, and numerous bird species. Although sightings of animals such as leopards are less common, they are occasionally seen within the park.
