Usambara Mountains are home to an unspoiled tropical forest that is rare in East Africa and of great ecological interest. The valuable ecology of the Usambara is seeking increasing protection by conservation organizations and some donor countries like Norway. The tropical forests are home to endemic bird species including the Naduk eagle owl (Bubo vosseleri), the Usambara Akalat (Sheppardia montana), Amani sunbird, green-headed oriole, southern banded snake eagle and the Usambara weaver (Ploceus nicolli). Forest in Usambara Mountains is species that are endemic to the Usambara Mountains include the tree Calodendrum eickii.In addition to learning about the conservation needs of this mountain range and doing some spectacular birding, there are ample opportunities for hiking with stunning viewpoints over the forested mountains.

DAY 1: LUSHOTO TO LUKOZI VILLAGE This walk will take you through nice landscapes, natural forests where you will explore and learn about several species of trees,flowers and shrubs. Admire the rich vegetation,colourful birds and butterflies,monkeys. Walk in the villages and experience the locals life.Take break and have picnick lunch. Keep walking through the villages to Lushoto village and spend the night in the small lodge. DAY 2: LUKOZI TO RANGWI After breakfast the walk will start again through the villages and settlements of mbuguand pare tribes. Through local farms also will pass through nice landscapes,viewpoints,mountain high peaks to Rangwi village and accommodate in the nuns (sisters)convent, enjoy and experience night life in the village with locals. DAY 3: RANGWI TO MTAE Walk through the village of Emau and climb Shagayu peak about 2000 m above sea level where you Will have a nice view over usambara beautiful scenery; Keep walking through shagayu pine forest to Goka village,then to Sunga village and stop for lunch (hot meal)After lunch keep walking to the village of Mabughai and visit pottery women and learn how they mould pott using clay soil and walk down to Mtae village while enjoying the nice view of Pare mountains and lake Kalimau .Go for sunset around 6:30pm
