Description
Escape the busy city life and discover one of Nepal's most beautiful yet lesser-known trekking destinations with the 8-Day Sailung Trek. Located east of Kathmandu, Sailung is a peaceful highland famous for its rolling green hills, panoramic Himalayan views, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and rich Tamang culture. Unlike Nepal's crowded trekking routes, Sailung offers a tranquil journey where you can immerse yourself in nature, interact with welcoming local communities, and experience authentic rural life.
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Mude Bazar, passing through picturesque towns, terraced farmlands, and lush hills. From Mude, the trekking journey starts as you walk through dense forests of pine, oak, and rhododendron, cross quiet meadows, and visit traditional villages where centuries-old customs are still preserved.
One of the highlights of this trek is the visit to Dhormba Gompa, a peaceful Buddhist monastery surrounded by beautiful mountain landscapes. The colorful prayer flags, spinning prayer wheels, and spiritual atmosphere provide an unforgettable cultural experience while offering insight into the religious traditions of the local Tamang people.
The trail continues across scenic ridgelines, alpine pastures, and rhododendron forests before reaching Gurase Bhanjyang, one of the most spectacular viewpoints along the route. On clear days, trekkers can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan range, including Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lakpa, Jugal Himal, and even distant peaks from the Everest region. Sunrise and sunset over the rolling Sailung hills create unforgettable moments for photographers and nature lovers alike.
As the trek descends toward Bholung Village, you'll experience genuine Nepalese hospitality through community homestays and local lodges. Spend time interacting with villagers, learning about their traditions, tasting homemade local cuisine, and experiencing a lifestyle that has remained largely unchanged for generations.
The final trekking day leads to the sacred Palanchok Bhagwati Temple, one of eastern Nepal's most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites. The temple is visited by thousands of devotees every year and offers not only spiritual significance but also beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valleys. After exploring the temple, you'll return to Kathmandu by road, bringing an end to a memorable Himalayan adventure.
The Sailung Trek is considered a moderate trek, making it suitable for beginners, families, photographers, and experienced hikers looking for a quieter alternative to Nepal's more popular trekking regions. Daily walking generally ranges from 4 to 7 hours on well-established trails with gradual ascents and descents.
The best seasons for the Sailung Trek are spring (March to May), when rhododendron forests bloom in vibrant colors, and autumn (September to November), when the skies are clear and mountain views are at their finest. Winter also offers crisp mountain scenery, while the summer monsoon transforms the hills into lush green landscapes.
Whether you're seeking spectacular Himalayan panoramas, peaceful trekking trails, authentic cultural encounters, or a refreshing escape into nature, the Sailung Trek delivers a unique experience that combines adventure, spirituality, and local hospitality. It is an ideal journey for travelers who wish to explore an untouched corner of Nepal while enjoying breathtaking scenery and meaningful cultural connections away from the crowds.
Join us on this unforgettable 8-day adventure and discover why Sailung is becoming one of Nepal's hidden trekking gems.

Today begins the first trekking day. The trail gradually climbs through dense forests of pine, oak, and rhododendron while passing scattered Tamang and Sherpa settlements. As the altitude increases, the landscape becomes more open, revealing rolling green hills and distant Himalayan views.
