Highlights
Description
This 3-day Morocco itinerary is perfect for first-time visitors seeking to discover Tangier, Asilah, Tetouan, and the enchanting Blue City of Chefchaouen. Combining history, culture, landscapes, and coastal beauty, this journey showcases the best of Northern Morocco in a short yet rich experience.
Day 1: Tangier – Asilah – Tangier
Start your adventure with a panoramic tour of modern Tangier, passing through Mohammed VI and Mohammed V streets before reaching the Marchane area and entering the historic Kasbah. Enjoy a walking tour through Tangier’s old city, exploring the 15th-century fortifications, following Matisse’s famous inspiration route, and visiting the former Sultan’s Palace—now a museum showcasing contemporary art, antiques, and Roman artifacts.
Continue through the maze-like alleys of the medina, stopping at key landmarks including St. Andrew’s Church, the Gran Socco, and the Petit Socco. After lunch, cross the elegant “California” district lined with palaces, luxurious villas, and celebrity homes.
Visit Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean, followed by a stop near camels for photos or a short ride. End the day at the legendary Caves of Hercules, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural sites.
In the afternoon, head to Asilah, a colorful coastal town known for its white walls, vibrant murals, and relaxed atmosphere. Explore Bab Homar, the Berber Kasbah, and the historic Palace of Raisouli (subject to opening). Enjoy the charm of this fortified Portuguese village before returning to Tangier.
Day 2: Tetouan & Chefchaouen Excursion
Begin the day traveling toward Tetouan, the “White Bird” of the Rif Mountains. Tetouan blends Arab and Andalusian influences and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the new town, including Hassan II Square, the governor’s palace, the Spanish garden, and the first mosque built in North Africa.
Enter the medina through Bab El Okla and enjoy a cultural walking tour through its different sections—the Jewish quarter, Andalusian district, Berber market, Ghersa El Kbira—and visit the Ethnographic and Craft Museums (depending on opening times).
After a refreshment break, continue to Chefchaouen for lunch. Known for its blue-painted streets, peaceful ambiance, and scenic mountain views, Chefchaouen is one of Morocco’s most iconic destinations. Explore Uta Hammam Square, wander through the medina’s picturesque alleyways, and visit the Ras El Ma waterfalls.
Overnight stay in the magical Blue City.
Day 3: Chefchaouen – Tangier Departure
After breakfast in Chefchaouen, enjoy a final stroll through its serene lanes before driving back to Tangier for departure, completing a memorable journey through the highlights of Northern Morocco.
