Chennai to Pondicherry Heritage & Temple Tour

Day 1: Chennai – Kanchipuram – Pondicherry

Drive: Approx. 190 km | 5 hrs

After breakfast, depart from Chennai and drive to the sacred city of Kanchipuram, one of India's seven holiest pilgrimage destinations and renowned for its ancient temples and world-famous silk weaving tradition. Visit the magnificent Kailasanathar Temple, admired for its exquisite Pallava-era sandstone architecture, followed by the impressive Ekambareswarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Continue to the historic Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Vaikunda Perumal Temple, and the revered Kamakshi Amman Temple, each representing the rich spiritual and architectural heritage of South India. Later, continue your drive to Pondicherry and check in to your hotel. In the evening, visit Auroville to view the iconic Matrimandir from the designated viewpoint before exploring the charming French Quarter, famous for its colorful colonial buildings, tree-lined streets, boutiques, and cafés. If time permits, visit the Pondicherry Museum before returning to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Pondicherry – Mahabalipuram – Chennai

Drive: Approx. 160 km | 4 hrs

After breakfast, check out and drive towards the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mahabalipuram, celebrated for its remarkable Pallava rock-cut monuments and coastal temples. Visit the iconic Shore Temple, beautifully overlooking the Bay of Bengal, and explore the magnificent Five Rathas (Pancha Rathas), each carved from a single granite rock. Continue to the fascinating Cave Temples, featuring intricate carvings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology, before admiring Arjuna's Penance, one of the world's largest open-air stone reliefs. Also visit the famous balancing boulder known as Krishna's Butterball, one of Mahabalipuram's most photographed landmarks. Later, drive back to Chennai, where you will be transferred to your hotel or the airport for your onward journey.
