Dong Ba Market is one of the oldest markets in Hue. This place has very much importance in the everyday life of Hue. Shoppers rate it as one of the best shopping places in the city. The capital city was invaded in the summer of 1885 and the grand market was burned to ashes by the aggressors. However, after 1887, the King Dong Khanh rebuilt the market and named it Dong Ba Market. Since that time, the Dong Ba Market is providing food, hospitals, dormitories, and other facilities to the commuters. It was in 1899 during the reconstruction project of King Thanh Thai that the market was relocated to its current position.
Despite the fact that the market went through many changes since the start of the 20th century, many old features are still visible in the market. Tourists usually love to go to the Old bell tower during their visit to the market and stand proudly in the center of the complex’s building. The overall area of the Dong Ba Market is approximately 16,000 m2. It is important to mention that it is mainly not the architect of the market due to which it is famous, but the serenity and the environment created by the shoppers which attract the majority of people.
