5:00 AM – Transfer to Zanzibar Airport

Early in the morning, your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Zanzibar. The exact pick-up time depends on your flight schedule and hotel location.

You will be transferred to Zanzibar Airport for check-in. It is important to carry your passport or identification document. After check-in, you wait for boarding and receive a short briefing about your safari.

6:30 AM – Flight from Zanzibar to Mikumi

You board a scheduled light aircraft flight from Zanzibar to Mikumi. The flight takes approximately 1 hour.

During the flight, you can enjoy beautiful views from the window. You may see the Indian Ocean coastline, small villages, rivers, forests, and open savannah landscapes. The aircraft is small but safe and operated by experienced pilots.

This short flight saves many hours compared to traveling by road.

7:30 AM – Arrival at Mikumi Airstrip

Upon arrival at the airstrip near Mikumi National Park, your professional safari guide will welcome you. He will introduce himself and explain the safari program for the day.

Your safari vehicle will be ready at the airstrip, and your game drive begins immediately to maximize your time inside the park.

8:00 AM – Morning Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

You enter the park in a 4x4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof. This allows you to stand up safely for better wildlife viewing and photography.

Mikumi National Park is famous for:

• Large herds of elephants walking across the plains
• Lions resting under trees or hunting
• Giraffes moving gracefully through the savannah
• Zebras and wildebeest grazing together
• Buffaloes in groups
• Hippos in water pools
• Various antelope species such as impala and kudu

Your guide will drive slowly and carefully to spot animals. He will explain animal behavior, feeding habits, and interesting facts about the ecosystem. The open plains of Mikumi make it easier to see animals compared to parks with thick forests.

1:00 PM – Picnic Lunch in the Park

At midday, you stop at a safe and designated picnic site inside the park. You will enjoy a packed lunch prepared for you.

There are shaded areas and basic facilities. Sometimes animals may be seen at a distance even during lunch. After eating and resting for a short time, you continue with the afternoon safari.

2:00 PM – Afternoon Game Drive

In the afternoon, temperatures begin to cool slightly, and animals may become more active. You may see predators moving, elephants heading toward water sources, or giraffes feeding on tree leaves.

Your guide will explore different areas of the park to increase your chances of seeing more wildlife. Bird lovers may also enjoy spotting various bird species found in the park.

3:30 PM – Transfer to Airstrip

After a full and exciting safari experience, you drive back to the airstrip. Along the way, you may still see animals crossing the road or grazing near the vehicle.

At the airstrip, you prepare for your return flight.

4:00 PM – Flight Back to Zanzibar

You board your scheduled flight back to Zanzibar. During the return flight, you can relax and reflect on your safari experience while enjoying scenic aerial views once again.

5:00 PM – Arrival in Zanzibar

Upon arrival at Zanzibar Airport, your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel.

You will arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon or early evening, allowing you to relax after a full day of adventure.
