6 Days Machame Route Itinerary
Day 1: Machame Gate (1,800m) – Machame Camp (3,000m)
Drive from Arusha/Moshi to Machame Gate for registration. Begin trekking through lush rainforest.
Hiking time: 5–7 hours.
Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp (3,840m)
Climb through moorland with spectacular views of Kibo Peak.
Hiking time: 4–6 hours.
Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)
Acclimatization day. Hike up to Lava Tower and descend to Barranco Camp.
Hiking time: 6–8 hours.
Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Climb the famous Barranco Wall and trek across alpine desert terrain.
Hiking time: 4–5 hours.
Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,640m)
Short but steep hike to base camp. Early dinner and rest before summit attempt.
Hiking time: 3–4 hours.
Day 6: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Gate
Midnight summit attempt to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
Descend to Mweka Gate after success celebration.
Total hiking time: 10–14 hours.
