6-Day Machame Route Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro

Day 1: Machame Gate → Machame Camp (1,800 m → 3,000 m)

• Trek through dense rainforest filled with exotic plants, birds, and monkeys.
• Enjoy stunning scenery and cool shade along the trail.
• Overnight in tents at Machame Camp with dinner and rest.

Day 2: Machame Camp → Shira Camp (3,000 m → 3,850 m)

• Hike through open moorland and small streams.
• Cross the Shira Plateau, a wide, high-altitude plateau with panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks.
• Overnight at Shira Camp, preparing for higher altitudes.

Day 3: Shira Camp → Barranco Camp (3,850 m → 3,950 m)

• Trek across the Shira Plateau and descend slightly toward Barranco Camp.
• Marvel at unique flora like giant lobelias and groundsels.
• Optional acclimatization hike around the camp for better summit readiness.

Day 4: Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp (3,950 m → 4,035 m)

• Climb the famous Barranco Wall, a challenging yet rewarding scramble with breathtaking views.
• Trek through alpine desert to Karanga Camp.
• Dinner and rest, preparing for the summit push.

Day 5: Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp → Summit → Barafu Camp (4,035 m → 5,895 m → 4,600 m)

• Trek to Barafu Camp, rest briefly, then begin the midnight summit push.
• Slowly ascend to Gilman’s Point on Kibo’s crater rim, then continue to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point, at 5,895 m.
• Witness the sunrise over Kilimanjaro, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
• Descend to Barafu Camp for overnight rest.

Day 6: Barafu Camp → Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate (4,600 m → 1,800 m)

• Trek down through alpine desert, moorland, and rainforest.
• Celebrate summit success at Mweka Gate, receive certificates, and return to Moshi/Arusha.
