Begin your day with a comfortable pickup from your hotel in Moshi, heading toward the lush foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. As you drive through scenic landscapes of banana plantations and rolling green hills, you’ll get your first glimpse of Materuni, one of the region’s most charming Chagga villages.

Upon arrival, you’ll register at the Materuni village office, where your local guide will warmly welcome you and share an introduction to the area’s culture, traditions, and natural surroundings. From here, your adventure to the waterfalls begins.

Start your guided hike along a beautiful trail lined with tropical vegetation, coffee and banana farms, and panoramic views of valleys and distant mountains. Along the way, your guide will point out local plants, explain village life, and share stories about the Chagga community. After about 45 minutes to an hour of walking, you’ll reach the magnificent Materuni Waterfall—an impressive 80-meter cascade plunging into a cool, clear pool below. Take time to enjoy the scenery, capture photos, and, if you like, dip your feet or take a refreshing swim in the natural water.

After soaking in the beauty of the falls, hike back to the village for a delicious, freshly prepared Chagga-style lunch. Enjoy local favorites such as rice, banana stew, vegetables, beans, and seasonal fruits—all made with ingredients from the surrounding farms.

With renewed energy, you’ll continue to the coffee experience, where a local coffee expert will guide you through the traditional, hands-on process of making coffee from bean to cup. Walk through the coffee farm to see how the beans grow, learn how to harvest and wash them, and then join in roasting the beans over an open fire. Grind the roasted beans using traditional tools while singing along with your hosts’ lively Chagga songs. Finally, brew the coffee and savor a rich, aromatic cup of freshly made Arabica—crafted entirely by you.
