Description

Kilimanjaro 7 Days Umbwe Route tour - Widerange African Safaris

Umbwe route is a less popular trail that deserves attention. In the past, it was perceived as a difficult route. However, while it is steeper in the first two days, the route is still suitable for many hikers. It begins on the southern side of Mount Kilimanjaro, converging with Lemosho route and Machame route on the third day before the Barranco Wall. A key characteristic of Umbwe is that during the first two days you will hardly see other trekkers. It’s available in 6 or 7-day itineraries, with the seven-day option being the recommended one for beginners without prior acclimatization. Overall, it’s a very scenic route that will allow you to see some of the best views on Kilimanjaro, traverse all of the mountain’s climatic zones, and observe its unique plants and animals.

Day 1: Umbwe cave campsite

We will be picked up from the hotel and driven to the Umbwe Gate. Following completion of the gate registration requirements, the trip continues through the rainforest to the Umbwe cave campground, where all tents are already set up, before stopping for dinner and sleep. Today you'll trek through a dense forest, crossing slopes and valleys.

Day 2: Umbwe cave campsite to Barranco hut campsite

After breakfast, you will go through the remaining woodland to the moorland and heath zone, where you will be treated to spectacular views of the Barranco valleys and the mountain's ice crown. After that, you'll head to Barranco Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Barranco acclimatization

On Day 3, you'll go exploring near Barranco camp to get some much-needed acclimatization. Keep your camera handy to capture the groundsel-covered campsite's splendor. This is many trekkers' favorite camp on the trail, which is another reason why it's ideal for your acclimatization day. If you're confident in your body's ability to adjust to new environments.

Day 4: Baranco camp to Karanga camp

To allow for acclimatization, today's hike will be brief. After breakfast, you'll start ascending the Barranco wall and hiking glacial valleys; don't worry, it's easier than it appears! You'll drop into Karanga Valley after crossing a succession of hills and valleys from the top of the wall. You'll arrive at Karanga camp after another tough climb, where you'll unwind for the afternoon before dinner and overnight rest.

Day 5: Karanga camp to Barafu camp

After breakfast, depart Karanga and proceed to the Mweka Trail junction. After that, you'll walk for 1 to 2 hours up the rocky ridge before arriving at Barafu Camp, which offers spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro's summit from numerous perspectives. Your tents will be erected along a windy, narrow, and rocky ridge. It's therefore worthwhile to spend some time getting to know your surroundings before it gets dark. Prepare for the impending trip to the summit by spending the night at Barafu camp.

Day 6: Barafu camp to Uhuru peak then to mweka camp

This is where things start to get rough! You'll go off into the night shortly before midnight to begin your final ascent to Mount Kilimanjaro's peak. Follow many switchbacks between the Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers until you reach Astella point amid the thick stone screen (5,756m). This is perhaps the most difficult segment of the trail. And it will take a lot of physical and mental effort. Continue to proceed slowly and carefully, paying attention to your guidance. After a brief rest at Stella Point, you'll climb for another hour along the crater rim before reaching your ultimate destination: Uhuru Peak! The weather on the summit will dictate how long you can stay there, but you must begin your descent immediately. back to Barafu Camp insufficient time to ensure you have adequate rest You'll gather the remainder of your luggage and descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m), where you'll have dinner and a well-deserved rest!

Day 7: Mweka camp to mweka gate then back to Moshi

After breakfast, take a lovely trail through the forest to Mweka Gate to begin the easiest portion of your experience on Mount Kilimanjaro.
