Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania
- Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and meet your guide, who will transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Meet with Kizza Adventures' tour operator to discuss 8 days Marangu route itinerary and gear check. He will also give you an offer for exploring Moshi, a bustling town at the bases of Mount Kilimanjaro if you will wish.
Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
- Drive to Marangu Gate (1,800m). Register at the Gate and begin hiking trek on Marangu route through rainforest to Mandara Hut (2,743m). The trail winds through the lush rainforest, with the possibility of seeing monkeys and other wildlife along the way
- Overnight at Mandara Hut.
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
- Hike from Mandara Hut to Horombo hut (3,720m). Trekking through moorland and heath zones, passing through the Maundi Crater, a beautiful volcanic crater with stunning vistas. Enjoy views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Overnight at Horombo Hut
Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
- Rest and acclimatize at Horombo Hut. Optional hike to Zebra Rock or Mawenzi Ridge (4,010m) for altitude acclimatization. In the evening, you'll receive a briefing from your guide about the next day's trek among the 8 days Marangu route itinerary. Overnight at Horombo Hut.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
- Hike from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,703m). Trek through alpine desert zone and overnight at Kibo Hut.
Day 6: Summit Day-Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
- Wake up early (around midnight) to begin summit ascent. Hike from Kibo Hut to Gilman’s Point (5,681m) at the rim of the crater. Continue hiking to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) for sunrise. Descend back to Kibo Hut and rest briefly before continuing to Horombo Hut for Overnight.
Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
- Trek from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate. Complete registration and receive summit certificates. Transfer back to hotel in Moshi. Celebratory dinner with tour operator.
Day 8: Departure from Tanzania
- Depart Tanzania with unforgettable memories of the Marangu route trek. And this Marks the end of your wonderful 8 days Marangu route itinerary.
