7 Days Umbwe Route Explore an Unforgettable Journey
Welcome to Kizza Adventures' Umbwe Route 7 Days expedition, where you'll conquer the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro through the most challenging and thrilling route available. Over the course of 7 days, you'll trek through dense rainforests, scramble up rocky ridges, and witness stunning glaciers, all while immersing yourself in the breathtaking beauty of Tanzania's highest peak
Since the Umbwe route provides less summit success, 7 days Umbwe route is the best for one to have summit success rate. This is because of the acclimatization day added to it rather than the 6 days Umbwe Route. This route joins with Machame Route, Lemosho Route and Shira Route. We can use an alternative Western Breach to the summit which approaches Uhuru Peak from the west. The Western Breach ascends 850m in about 1.25 miles (2 km), and requires some scrambling (climbing on hands and feet) at certain points. This path is very beautiful but also very challenging due to its rocks formations and its steep slope. But there is nothing to worry as our guides and porters will assist you in every step and enable you attain Summit success.

Day 0: Arrival for the 7-Day Umbwe Route Trek
Your adventure begins when you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where the friendly Kizza Adventures team will greet you warmly. You'll then be taken to your accommodation in Moshi, where you can relax and prepare for your upcoming trek on the 7-day Umbwe Route.
Day 1: Trek from Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp
The real excitement begins as you meet your trekking team at the Umbwe Gate. On your first day, you’ll hike through lush rainforests, rich in unique plants and wildlife. Though parts of the trail can be steep, the spectacular views of Moshi town and the surrounding plains make it all worthwhile. You’ll spend your first night at Umbwe Camp, where you can unwind and get ready for the journey ahead.
Day 2: Hike from Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp
On the second day of the trek, you’ll notice the landscape changing as the dense forest gives way to more rugged terrain. A highlight of the day is reaching the famous Barranco Wall, an exciting climb with breathtaking views. You’ll finish the day at Barranco Camp, which is beautifully set in a scenic valley—an experience you won’t forget.
Day 3: Acclimatization Day at Barranco Camp
Day 3 is dedicated to acclimatization at Barranco Camp. You’ll spend the day exploring the surrounding area, with plenty of opportunities to take photos of the striking scenery, especially the groundsel trees around the campsite. Many trekkers call this their favorite spot, making it an ideal place to adjust to the altitude.
Day 4: Trek from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
On this day, the trek is shorter, allowing you more time to adjust to the altitude and enjoy the surroundings. You’ll cross the vast Barranco Valley, which is filled with interesting plants and rock formations. Your destination is Karanga Camp, where you’ll be treated to amazing views of the southern icefields, giving you a taste of the final leg of your journey.
Day 5: Trek from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
As the elevation increases, you’ll continue your climb to Barafu Camp, the last stop before the summit. The trail leads you into an alpine desert, with stunning rock formations and panoramic views. At Barafu Camp, you’ll have time to rest and prepare for your nighttime ascent to the summit.
Day 6: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
This is the big day! Starting from Barafu Camp, you’ll make your final push to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. The sunrise from the summit is an unforgettable sight, filling you with a sense of triumph. After reaching the summit, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for some much-needed rest after this incredible achievement.
Day 7: Descent from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
On your last day, you’ll descend through the rainforest, enjoying the lush surroundings as you make your way to Mweka Gate. Once you’ve completed the trek, you’ll celebrate your successful climb with the Kizza Adventures team and then head back to your accommodation in Moshi, filled with memories of your incredible journey on the 7-day Umbwe Route
