Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you'll be met and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Your tour guide will provide an orientation, review your gear, and give you a signed agreement for your 7-day Marangu Route climb.
Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Drive to Marangu Gate (1,843m) and start your trek through the rainforest to Mandara Hut (2,700m). Enjoy views of the mountain and local wildlife on a 5-7 hour hike. Prepare for possible rain by bringing rain gear.
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Climb from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m) through the remaining rainforest. The 5-7 hour trek offers views of Kibo and Mawenzi plateaus. After arriving, take a short acclimatization walk before resting at Horombo Hut.
Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
Spend the day acclimatizing with a 4-5 hour walk to the base of Mawenzi Peak (4,600m). Return to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight, helping you adjust to the altitude.
Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
Hike to Kibo Hut (4,700m) through alpine moorland, taking about 6 hours. Enjoy views of the upper mountain ranges and rest in preparation for the summit attempt.
Day 6: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak and Descend to Horombo Hut
Begin your summit attempt from Kibo Hut (4,700m) at night, reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m) in the early morning. Descend back to Horombo Hut for rest after a challenging but rewarding climb.
Day 7: Horombo Hut to Moshi
Descend from Horombo Hut, passing Mandara Hut, and reach Marangu Gate (1,843m). Celebrate your achievement, receive your summit certificate, and transfer back to Moshi for a restful night.
