What's included
Itinerary
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Selous – Boat Safari
Your safari begins early in the morning with a transfer from your hotel or the airport in Dar es Salaam to Selous Game Reserve, now called Nyerere National Park. The journey takes several hours and passes through small towns, villages, and beautiful countryside. You will see local life along the way and enjoy the changing landscapes.
After arrival and lunch at the lodge, you will go for an exciting afternoon boat safari on the Rufiji River. This is a special experience because you will see animals from the water instead of a vehicle. You may spot hippos swimming close to the boat, crocodiles resting on the riverbanks, and many colorful bird species. Sometimes elephants and other animals come to the river to drink. After the boat safari, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Full Game Drive in Selous
After breakfast, you will leave the lodge with picnic lunch boxes for a full-day game drive in Selous. This park is one of the largest protected wildlife areas in Africa and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is less crowded than northern parks, giving you a more quiet and natural safari experience.
During the game drive, your professional driver-guide will take you deep into the wilderness to search for wildlife. You may see large herds of elephants, lions resting under trees, African wild dogs, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and many types of antelope. Selous is also home to many birds and beautiful landscapes with rivers, lakes, and open plains. In the afternoon, you will return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.
Day 3: Selous to Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, you will depart Selous and begin your journey to Mikumi National Park. The drive takes several hours and passes through scenic landscapes, farms, and rural villages. You will see mountains in the distance and enjoy the peaceful countryside views.
You will arrive in Mikumi in the afternoon and check in at your lodge. The rest of the day is for relaxation. You can enjoy the lodge environment, take a short walk around the area, or simply rest after the journey. Dinner will be served at the lodge in the evening.
Day 4: Full Game Drive in Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, you will head out for a full-day game drive in Mikumi National Park. The park is often called the “Serengeti of the South” because of its wide open grasslands and rich wildlife.
Mikumi offers great chances to see elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, buffalo, and many antelopes. The open plains make it easier to spot animals and take good photos. Your guide will drive to the best areas in the park based on animal movements. At midday, you will enjoy a hot picnic lunch inside the park before continuing your game drive in the afternoon. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Maasai Cultural Tour – Return to Dar es Salaam
On your final day, after breakfast, you will take part in a Maasai cultural tour. During this visit, you will learn about Maasai traditions, daily life, and customs. You may see traditional houses, watch cultural dances, and have the chance to ask questions about their lifestyle. This is a great way to understand local culture and history.
After the cultural experience, you will travel back to Dar es Salaam by SGR train. The train journey is comfortable and gives you time to relax while enjoying the scenery. Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, you will be transferred to your hotel or the airport, marking the end of your unforgettable 5-day Tanzania safari.
