From Craters to Chimpanzees: Explore Tanzania & Uganda in 7 Days

Day 1

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport – Arusha City

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by us experienced driver/guides. After a short introduction, he will escort you to your reserved hotel in Arusha for an overnight stay. He will introduce you to this wonderful city and country.

Day 2

Arusha City to Tarangire National Park

Following a delightful breakfast, our driver-guide will collect you from your hotel, along with your packed lunch, and escort you to Tarangire for a game viewing experience. After several hours of observing wildlife, we will continue to Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay.

The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses through the park. The river is the only source of water for wild animals here during the dry season. The park is famous for its large numbers of elephants, baobab trees, and tree-climbing African pythons.

Day 3

Karatu – Ngorongoro Crater – Karatu

Following breakfast, embark on a drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where an exciting game viewing experience awaits, along with a visit to the renowned Ngorongoro Crater. This location offers the best opportunity to spot a black rhino, should fortune favor you. As evening approaches, return to your pre-arranged accommodation in Karatu town for dinner and an overnight stay.

The crater is the world's largest caldera and was formed after an explosion that occurred approximately 2 to 3 million years ago. The crater floor is 1,800 meters (5,900 feet) above sea level and has around 30,000 animals and a great variety of birds.

Day 4

Manyara National Park - Depart

After breakfast our safari guide will pick you from your hotel/lodge and then proceed to Lake Manyara National Park for game viewing and a picnic lunch, after game drive transfer to Arusha/Kilimanjaro airport where you will catch your flight to Uganda.

Manyara Park covers an area of only 330 sq km (127 sq miles), of which up to 200 sq km (77 sq miles) is made up of the lake when water levels are high. Lake Manyara is an excellent place for bird watching and a good area to find elephants, giraffes, zebras, baboons, warthogs, buffalos and maybe even a legendary tree-climbing lion!. At some point during your game drive you should get off your vehicle at the hippo pool to stretch your legs and observe the hippos here.

Day 5

Arrival and Transfer to Kibale forest National Park

Upon your arrival at Entebbe airport, your will be waiting for you. You will be then taken to have refreshments and then we drive directly to Kibale National Park to the Western part of Uganda. Along the way, you will find many baboons on the road waiting to be given some food, pass by the tea plantations and admire the scenic beauty of it all. Continue through Fort Portal town until you reach Kibale National Park. ay.

Day 6

Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Swamp walk

After your morning breakfast, your driver will take you to the park information centre where you will be briefed together with other guests about what to do and not to do while trekking chimpanzees. Thereafter you will set out to look for the chimpanzees in the forest and experience unforgettable. Trekking might take 2 to 6 hours of which it is based on the location of chimpanzees.

At the end of the day, you would have received a great African experience since you will see how these people live, do their day-to-day activities among other things. Head back to the lodge, have dinner & Overnight.

Optional activity

At an additional fee of only $70 US Dollar p.p., you do the chimpanzee habituation tracking instead of the regular chimpanzee tracking. This will take all day and you will be 100% sure to have a very close encounter with your closest relatives.

Day 7

Transfer back to Kampala/Entebbe

After breakfast, you will enjoy a leisurely drive back to Kampala arriving in the afternoon. Drop off at your hotel in Kampala or at Entebbe airport for your onward journey back and that will be end of this 7 Day Tanzania & Uganda Safari: Exploring Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Manyara, and Chimpanzee Trekking
