Zurich Highlights & Old Town Private Tour

Discover Zurich’s most famous sights, historic neighbourhoods and chocolate traditions on a private walking tour designed especially for first-time visitors.

The tour begins at Zurich Main Station and continues along Bahnhofstrasse, one of the city’s best-known avenues. While walking past elegant shops, banks and historic buildings, you will learn how Zurich developed from a small riverside town into Switzerland’s largest city and an international financial centre.

At the entrance to Rennweg, we discover Zurich’s confectionery tradition with a stop connected to the historic Confiserie Honold. We then follow Rennweg into the Old Town and continue to Lindenhof. This peaceful hilltop square offers one of the finest panoramic views over the Limmat River, the historic rooftops, the Grossmünster and Zurich’s university district.

From Lindenhof, we walk through narrow medieval streets towards St. Peter’s Church and the Münsterhof. Along the way, we visit Max Chocolatier, an exclusive boutique specialising in handcrafted Swiss chocolate. Guests may explore the shop and purchase chocolate, subject to official opening hours.

At Münsterhof, you will discover the history of the Fraumünster and its influential medieval abbey. The church is viewed from the outside. We then cross the River Limmat and stop outside the Grossmünster, one of Zurich’s most recognisable landmarks and an important symbol of the Swiss Reformation.

The tour continues through the lively Niederdorf district, with its historic houses, narrow lanes, restaurants and small shops. Here, Zurich’s international history comes to life through the story of Vladimir Lenin, who lived in the city before the Russian Revolution.

We also visit the area around Cabaret Voltaire, where the international Dada movement was founded during the First World War. Discover how artists, writers and political exiles transformed Zurich into a centre of cultural experimentation and protest.
