Gemstone & Adventure Journey Across Northern Pakistan
Day 01:
Fly to Islamabad, Pakistan.
Day 02:
Arrival at Islamabad airport. Depending on arrival time, either fly to Skardu or drive to Dassu. Overnight at hotel or camp in Shigar Valley, a fascinating region of Baltistan known for gemstone mining, rugged landscapes, and mineral-rich mountains.
Day 03:
Visit local gemstone mines around Shigar. Meet with miners and dealers, then return to Skardu. Explore gemstone shops showcasing locally mined stones. Overnight at hotel in Skardu.
Day 04:
Drive from Skardu to Gilgit (4–5 hours). On the way, possible excursion to Shangus mines across the Indus River, famous for semi-precious gemstones. Overnight in Gilgit.
Day 05:
Travel from Gilgit to Karimabad, Hunza (100 km / 2 hours) via Karakoram Highway. Stop at Rakaposhi View Point and the continental plates collision point. Explore Karimabad Bazaar and gemstone shops, with optional visits to Baltit and Altit Forts. Overnight in Hunza.
Day 06:
Excursion to ruby mines at Donaydas–Ganish. Continue to Passu for spectacular landscapes before returning to Karimabad. These mines are known for rubies, pargasite, and spinel. Overnight in Hunza.
Day 07:
Drive by jeep to Summyar, meet local dealers, then continue to the end of the jeep road. Trek about 1 hour to Madurkoshi. Overnight in tents.
Day 08:
Morning trek (3–5 hours) to Chumar Bakoor mine. The steep climb leads to a bustling area where local miners live and work, resembling a small mountain village. Overnight in tents.
Day 09:
Morning visit to the mines, interact with miners, and sift through debris for gemstones. Trek down (2–3 hours) to the road, then drive back to Karimabad. Explore Aliabad gemstone shops or meet dealers directly. Overnight in Karimabad.
Day 10:
Drive along the Karakoram Highway to Besham (400 km / 8–9 hours) via Chilas and Kohistan. Overnight in Besham.
Day 11:
Drive (2–3 hours) to Swat Valley via Shangla Pass. Visit Swat Bazaar and meet local gemstone dealers. Overnight in Swat.
Day 12:
Full-day exploration of emerald mines around Mingora, Swat – world-famous for producing emeralds with rich green color and clarity, often compared to Colombian emeralds. Overnight in Swat.
Day 13:
Drive to Peshawar and visit Namak Mandi Gemstone Market, renowned for its international trade in gemstones sourced from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. Witness skilled artisans and gem cutters at work. Overnight in Peshawar.
Day 14:
Drive to Islamabad (180 km / 2 hours). Visit gemstone shops in the capital. Overnight in Islamabad.
Day 15:
Departure. Transfer to Islamabad International Airport for your onward flight.
