Overview
HERCULANEUM was buried by twenty-three meters of volcanic deposits after the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. It was the Bourbons who brought it back to light, thanks to a chance discovery made in correspondence with the ancient theater of Herculaneum.

Herculaneum from Sorrento guided walk+transfer
In 79 AD a sudden roar interrupted the daily flow of life on the slopes of Vesuvius. A column of volcanic material rose to a height of 14 km, releasing a rain of lapilli and pumice which, moved by the wind, began to deposit on Pompeii and the nearby inhabited centres.
Among the most important archaeological remains of the city: the College of the Augustals, the Baths, the House of Neptune, and Amphitrite, the Sannitic House and the beach where more than 300 people died in search of salvation.
