Description

Palermo City

Palermo City Is a important Place in Sicily. She Is a Capital. Art, traditions, history, culture, food and Much More.

Palermo was first the capital of the Emirate of Sicily, then of the newly formed Kingdom of Sicily, thus acquiring the titles of Prima Sedes, Corona Regis et Regni Caput, which it maintained until its dissolution in 1816 following the Congress of Vienna. From 8 December 1816, in the early stages of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, Palermo was the capital of this new state entity for about a year, before Naples became the capital. However, the city maintained the status of capital city of the Sicilian island[15]. At the center of numerous popular revolts over the centuries, Palermo was the protagonist of the outbreak of the Sicilian vespers in 1282 and of the Sicilian revolution of 1848. Among the most renowned European locations during the Belle Époque, following the loss of life of approximately three thousand citizens between center and countryside and the urban devastation suffered by the US bombings of 1943, the city was awarded the gold medal for military valor. After the Second World War the city was strongly marked by the worsening of the mafia phenomenon, the fight against which by the State led to the Maxi Trial and the political-mafia massacres of 1992.
