Explore the two most popular temples in Indonesia, listed as UNESCO World heritage sites, Borobudur temple and Prambanan temple in one day. Located in Java-Indonesia, this temples were built in 9th centuries, representing two major Hindu and Buddhist dynasties at that time. The temples constructed from volcanic stones, originally designed without any cement or glue, using interlocking system of the stones.
Borobudur temple is the biggest Buddhist monument in the world as a single structure. This ancient temple consists of nine levels of a solid structure, it has no room or chamber to get in to. The temple decorated with 504 Buddha statues in a human scale size. On the upper part, there are 72 Stupas, on the inside of each Stupas there is sitting Buddha statues. Only visitors with Climb Up tickets are allowed to visit the temple until the Stupa area at the top of the temple. Along the way up, you will learn more about Buddhism from the relief carving that carved down on the wall of the temple from Tour Guide. This beautiful and detailed carving is really work of art from the ancient era.
Prambanan temple is the largest and the tallest Hindu temple in Indonesia, built at the same era with Borobudur but different dynasty. This temple consists of several structure which are like towers. Each tower specially built dedicated for each Hindu Gods such as Brahma, Wisnu and Shiva. Shiva temple is the tallest among them, it is 47 meters high. On each temples, you will enter and discover the Hindu Gods statues inside. All the statues and carving are original and well preserved since 9th centuries. Itinerary
To start, our driver will pick you up from your hotel or accommodation, then go to Magelang where Borobudur temple is located. Once we arrived at Borobudur temple area, our driver will manage everything for you to prepare including all the tickets and all the things needed to visit Borobudur including Upanat sandal at Borobudur. Once everything is settled, join a small group with the Tour Guide of Borobudur. Walk through history and climb up Borobudur until the top of the structure. Understand more about Buddhism from the detailed carving on the walls and explanation from our Tour Guide. After the explanation from the Guide, you have time on your own to explore more or take some beautiful photos of the temple.
Continue to other smaller temples near Borobudur named Pawon and Mendut Temple, theses temples are built approximately at the same era of Borobudur. On this extra visit you will have a chance to enter Mendut Buddhist Monastery where Buddhist still practicing the religion.
After Borobudur temple, continue your trip to Prambanan temple, it is about 1.5 hours drive. It is possible for you to make a stop along the way if you want to have lunch at local restaurant at your own expense or just stop for a while to take some photos of rice fields on the way.
Once arrived at Prambanan, complete your trip with another Guided Tour at Prambanan. Explore each tower of Prambanan temple and learn more about Hinduism in Java.
