In contrast, the imperial city of New Delhi created by the British Raj is composed of spacious, tree-lined avenues and imposing government buildings. Delhi has been the seat of power for several rulers and many empires for about a millennium. Many a times the city was built, destroyed and then rebuilt here. Proceed for the guided tour of Old Delhi (also known as Walled City and Sahajanabad). The tour will begin with visti of Rajghat where the father of the Nation, Mahatama Gandhi was cremated. Continue your visit to Red Fort (CLOSED ON MONDAYS), this fascinating red sandstone fort is an example of the rich Mughal architecture. Also visit the largest mosque of India, Jama Masjid. After visiting the highlights of Old Delhi, enjoy Rickshaw Ride through the narrow lanes of the walled city witnessing old mansions (havelis), colourbul and bustling markets with beautifully decorated shops. Later enjoy the visit of New Delhi. Drive past important buildings of New Delhi, namely, Connaught Place, The Parliament, The President House and also visit India Gate. Later visit two most famous UNESCO World heritage sites of Delhi, Humayun’s Tomb & Qutab Minare (Minarets). Humayun’s Tomb, the first tomb built with several innovations, set at the centre of luxurious gardens with water channels, was the precursor monument to the Taj Mahal. It was built in 1570 and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Monument in 1993 for its cultural importance. Continue to visit Qutab Minar and its monuments which were built in the early 13^th century. The surrounding archaeological area contains funerary buildings, notably the magnificent Alai-Darwaza Gate, the masterpiece of Indo-Muslim art, and two mosques, including the Quwwatu'l-Islam, is the oldest in northern India.
