This Guatemala City Walking Tour covers a distance of 5 kilometers (approximately 3.1 miles), in an average of 2.5 to 3 hours. We go through zones 2, 1 and 4, while discussing Guatemalan history, geography, biodiversity, cultures and politics.

This walking tour goes through three zones in Guatemala City (2, 1 and 4, in that order), and it will provide a general understanding of the geophysical and biogeographical characteristics of the territory, along with a summary of history of the cultures that have inhabited the area for over 12,000 years.
You will also learn about the past and present sociocultural and political issues that shape the current societies that share the country. From the ancient native cultures, throughout the Spanish occupation, the Central American independence and the eventual creation of the Republic of Guatemala, and the settlements of the capital city.
Please note that you will have to arrive using Uber to the starting location, and since its a walking tour, we finish at a different location, from where you can take an Uber to get back to your lodging area or next destination.

Itinerary
Meeting and starting point at Mapa en Relieve park in zone 2, any Uber driver will drop you off at that location. The entrance is located in a pedestrian street and you will find me close to the gate with a fence. Look for the garden with hydrangeas.
This park is a great start to comprehend the geophysical nature of the country and its biodiversity, and start talking about the history and present political situation.
After this park we walk towards the Central Square in zone 1, where we will walk along important landmarks such as the Presidential House, National Palace and Metropolitan Cathedral. Then we continue towards the Central Market, where we will visit the different levels of the market and go through a regular day for the vendors.
Once we exit the market we go back to Sixth Avenue, to continue walking south towards the Civic Center of the city, passing by different shops, restaurants, cafes and markets.
At the Civic Center we will walk through an area developed in the 1950's that marked the expansion of the city towards multiple directions, and have a better understanding of the zoning system of the city.
The tour finishes at Quo Building in zone 4, where you can take an Uber towards your next destination or lodging area.
