Samaria Gorge - All Day Tour from Chania

Samaria Gorge is considered one of the top excursion destinations in the Chania region and a trip to Chania is only complete if you visit it.

We explore the amazing nature inside the gorge (under UNESCO protection since 1981), a unique experience, and discover the hidden beauties of southern Chania.

We start in the area of Xyloskalos, on the plateau of Omalos, at an altitude of 1250 meters. We walk 12 miles or 18 kilometers along the river bed and end in the coastal village of Agia Roumeli. The average walking time in the Samaria Gorge is 4-6 hours on a rocky path. The path is mainly downhill, starting at an altitude of 1250 meters and ending at the beach of Agia Roumeli, where it ends at the narrowest point (2 meters wide).

The Samaria trail is the most popular hiking trail in all of Greece, it is excellently equipped with signs and markings that eliminate any danger, it is comfortable and very well maintained, mainly with stones and earth. Throughout the hike there are rest areas, public toilets and rangers for your safety.

It is considered a moderately difficult hike, as evidenced by the fact that it is walked by hundreds of people every day from the opening (in May) until the end of the visitor season (in October). It is a very pleasant hike, not strenuous, with many changes of scenery and a flexible environment. You should always bear in mind that although the path is not difficult overall, you should take more care on certain sections.
