National Park Garajonay is situated in the north of the Island of La Gomera. It was named a UNESCO Heritage site in 1986 and as a national park in 1981. The total area of the park is 15 sq mi and stretches into each of the 6 towns around. According to some estimates, around 450,000 tourists came to this park every year.

Accommodation facilities for tourists just outside of the park boundary also exist. National Park Garajonay is named on the Garajonay rock formation. The best sub-tropical forest is a part of the park which is also found in the Azores and the Madeira Islands also. Laurus azorica, Azores laurel can also be found in the park. Despite having the name of a single type of forest, it houses various varieties of forests. Forests lose some of its delicate species at higher altitudes due to less protection from the sun and wind.

On the southern side, a heather and beach kind of species adopted for less humid atmosphere can be seen. Some other sights of interest in the Park are massive rocks. The shape of these rocks is made by the erosion. There are many treks in the park. National Park Garajonay host invertebrates, bats, birds and a rich biota of understory plants. Park is famous as one of the best parks to witness the laurel pigeon & endemic pigeon.
