The Tsum Valley Trek is the Western part of the Gorkha District of Nepal. Tsum Valley trek is also another best option in the Manaslu region. Trekking in this hidden valley starts from driving to Arughat of dhading district and to Machhikhola. This is 19 days trek to explore the Himalayan region including this hidden valley. After driving to Aarughat we start hiking through different villages and small rivers with the view of mountains. Manaslu Trek Via Tsum Valley, Manaslu circuit trek is another option to do trek in the Manaslu region. The trail passes through pine forests, along raging rivers with cascading waterfalls and incredible suspension bridges, through fascinating villages and to several Gompas, monasteries, mani walls, and stupas, not to mention Milarepa’s Cave. On display are the mountain ranges of Himalchuli (7,893m), Ganesh Himal (7,140 m), Manaslu (8,163 m). The Tsum people have their own way of family life, for many outsiders. All the brothers in the family are married to a single girl. Itinerary


  1. Visited Places:

Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu & Transfer to Hotel (1,300m/4,264ft). Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our representatives and will Transport to Hotel. Overnight at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu. Day 02: Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation. As we acquire restricted area permits for you, our tour guide will take you on an excursion to the UNESCO listed World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu Valley. Starting with the Buddhist stupa of Swayambhunath, you’ll visit the Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, and another Buddhist stupa of Boudhanath. Later, we discuss the dos and don’ts of the trip. Overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu. Day 03: Drive Kathmandu to Arughat (600m/1,968ft) 7-8 hours drive. A westward picturesque ride along the Prithvi Highway, via the lush hills, leads us to Malekhu. Then, driving past Dhading Besi, the road turns curvy and leads us uphill to Gola Bhanjyang where enthralling views of snow-capped mountain peaks can be seen. The road then goes downhill to cross Ankhu Khola, and later, at Arughat, we meet Budhi Gandaki River. A further drive up the west bank of Budhi Gandaki River finally brings us to Soti Khola. Overnight in Soti Khola. Day 04: Arughat to Soti Khola (700m/2,296ft): 5-6 hours. After having our breakfast, we move on the track that ascends slowly through lovely Sal forests. It then goes over forested and attached ridges past many waterfalls. It later descends to pass rice paddies before ascending to the attractive Gurung village of Lapubesi (885m). After passing a suspension bridge at the remarkable Nauli Khola falls, the gorge opens out and the track drops onto stony banks along the Budhi Gandaki River before ascending to the village of Machha Khola and continue trek until reaching Khorlabesi. Overnight in Kholabesi. Day 05: Soti Khola to Maccha Khola (870m/2,952ft): 6-7 hours. After breakfast, we move forward through the narrow tracks on a meandering trail. After passing Tharo Khola, we reach Tatopani. Following the trails of Budhi Gandaki River and walking past a landslide-prone area, we cross the village of Dobhan and Yaruphant. Crossing the suspension bridge over Budhi Gandaki River, we enter Manaslu Conservation Area to walk on a stone-paved trail to arrive in Jagat. Overnight in Jagat. Day 06: Maccha Khola to Jagat (2340m/7676ft): 6-7 hours. Today we enter the constrained region of Manaslu and Tsum Valley. Leaving Jagat, we start walking on the riverbank of Budhi Gandaki past the settlements of Salleri, Sirdibas, and Philim. Enjoying the view of Shringi Himal (7161m), we register ourselves at the checkpoint in Philim before heading on to Ekle Bhatti. Still walking alongside Budhi Gandaki River, we arrive at a waterfall before entering the village of Lokpa. Overnight in Lokpa. Day 07: Jagat to Chisopani (1660m/5,445ft): 4-5 hours. From Lokpa, we trek to Chumling walking alongside Shiar Khola on a rockfall area. In Chumling, we can visit the three monasteries: Panago Gumba, Mani Dhungyur Gumba, and Gurwa Gumba. From Chumling, we continue to walk up to Domje and then to Chhokang Paro across several small streams. We will have an unobstructed view of Shringi Himal (7161m) throughout the way today. Upper Tsum valley exposes from Chhokang Paro, where the friendly local people welcome you with old-style Tibetan chiya. Overnight Chumling. Day 08: Chisopani to Chumling (2,386m/7,827ft): 6 – 7 hours. From Chumling, we trek to Chhokang Paro walking alongside Shiar Khola on a rockfall area. In Chumling, we can visit the three monasteries: Panago Gumba, Mani Dhungyur Gumba, and Gurwa Gumba. From Chumling, we continue to walk up to Domje and then to Chhokang Paro across several small streams. We will have an unobstructed view of Shringi Himal (7161m) throughout the way today. Upper Tsum valley exposes from Chhokang Paro, where the friendly local people welcome you with old-style Tibetan chiya.antique Gompa. Overnight Chhokang Paro. Day 09: Chumling to Chokhangparo (3,010m/9,903ft): 4-5 hours. Leaving Chhokang Paro, we Trek uphill alongside Shiar Khola to arrive at the nunnery of Rachen Gompa, which is an ancient nunnery of Tsum Valley. Enjoying the attractive views of the valley, we arrive at Piren Phu/Milarepa cave. Piren Phu is one of the holiest caves in the Tsum valley. Ancient Buddhist paintings, excellent creative scripts carved on stones, long prayer flags, and important Buddhists scripts make this cave one of the most significant socio-cultural asset of the valley. We continue to climb past the villages of Nile and Chule to finally reach Mu Gompa, a big monastery with 100 monks and Hiking Mu Gomba Same day and back to the Nile. The overnight Nile. Day 10: Chokhangparo to Nile (3,361m/11,058ft): 5-6 hours. After spending the night at the Village of Nile, we trace our way back to Chumling. Walking past small monasteries, Mani walls, and small settlements, we arrive at the sacred Milarepa Cave before reaching the holy monastery of Rachen Gompa, the walls of which is decorated with colourful Buddhist paintings. We then follow Shiar Khola downstream to reach Chhokang Paro. Overnight in Chhumling. Day 11: Extra day for excursion This is a day of leisure, After having a late breakfast hike up Mu Gumba and reach the base of Pika Himal (4,865m). We are quite close to Tibet and get a good view of the Tibetan peaks as well as the beautiful Ganesh Himal range. We may visit hiking and Dheron Gompa this day. After the day's excursion, we return to our camp at Mu Gumba. Day 12: Trek Mu Gompa to Rachen Gompa (3,210 m) -5 to 6 Hours We take the trail to Rachen Gumba, a nunnery. It is situated in the Shiar Khola Valley in the foothills of the mountains bordering Nepal and Tibet. Rachen Gumba was established in the year 1905 AD and is one of the largest nunneries in the Tsum valley. It belongs to the Ngak-pa sect, which does not allow animal slaughter. The nunnery houses one thousand clay, mud statues of Avalokiteshwara, a brightly coloured, carved throne and pillar, and a large prayer wheel. The interior is richly painted with murals about Buddhism and its history. We stay overnight at camp or local house. Day 13: Trek Mu Gompa to Rachen Gompa (3,210 m) -5 to 6 Hours We take the trail to Rachen Gumba, a nunnery. It is situated in the Shiar Khola Valley in the foothills of the mountains bordering Nepal and Tibet. Rachen Gumba was established in the year 1905 AD and is one of the largest nunneries in the Tsum valley. It belongs to the Ngak-pa sect, which does not allow animal slaughter. Day 14: Trek Rachen Gompa to Dumje (2,405m) -6 to 7 Hours Today, we proceed towards Dumje, which is small and scattered settlements with some houses and adjoining cattle sheds. Dumje is wide flat land, good for cultivation especially barley and potato. Where patches of purple-hued amaranth interspersed with fields of brown barley, dozens of yaks grazing in grassy meadows, rustic stone houses hugging the trail, long stretches of hand-carved mani stones and stacked mani walls, ancient villages dotting the landscape, rock chortens perched high on ridges, snow-capped Himalayan peaks scratching the deep blue sky, high remote mountain pass threading into Tibet, maroon-robed Buddhist monks and nuns fingering prayer beads, and hard-working kind-hearted villagers warmly welcome you into this scenic and soaring valley where Tibetan culture is still celebrated today. Day 15: Trek Dumje to Philim (cross Ripchet) (1,570 m) -6 ½ to 7 ½ Hours After breakfast, we are heading to Philim and cross Ripchet. We pass one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Lower Tsum Valley, Samba Tingding Chhupyang. This is the village that lies along with the trail from Gumpa Laundang to Philim. The houses are completely built from stone and roofs are pine wood. The houses are associated in a linear pattern along with the trial. There are remarkable numbers of Mani walls, Chortens and gateway chortens. We make camp in Philim for overnight stay. Day 16: Trek Philim to Tatopani (875m) -6 to 7 Hours. From Phillim we trek to Tatopani (hot spring) for about 6 to 7 hours, most of the trail is descend. You can relieve your tired muscles from many days by soaking yourself in the hot spring. We make camp here for an overnight stay or stay in the local house Day 17: Trek Tatopani to Soti Khola (720m) – to -7 Hours Today, we pass through terraced fields and tropical waterfalls cascading off soaring cliffs, rivers tumbling wildly down precipitous gorges and finally set up camp at the Soti Khola a Gurung Village. We stay overnight at camp or local House. Day 18: Soti Khola to Arughat to Kathmandu (1300m/1,968ft): Walk 4 hours and drive 7-8 hours. We will be ready at 6:00 morning to having breakfast or advice as to your trekking guide or you’re wise. We will drive back to Kathmandu through the road passing terraces, streams, rivers, local settlements, high hills and along the same road. It takes about 8 to 9 hours (conditional) to reach your hotel in Kathmandu by bus/ private car. Day 19: Departure International airport. Today is free or last-minute shopping for souvenirs or gift to your family, friends or relatives for you until departure flight/drive.
